What is the World Series of Baseball?
The World Series of MLB Baseball is competition which is the championship title for the preceding MLB season. The two League Champions American League and the National League. The teams in this era relied heavily on Hall of Fame outfielder Reggie - Mr October - Jackson and Hall of Fame Pitchers {Catfish Hunter and Vida Blue|Vida Blue and Catfish Hunter.
The New York Yankees, who are also in the American League, have competed in the Baseball World Series 40 times and have won the title 27 times. Both the Oakland A's and NY Yankees have by far won the most in MLB history. New York Yankees have been an incredibly successful team throughout their history, their most successful run during an amazing 45 year stretch from between 1920 and 1964. During this time period the NY Yankees went to the World Series a record 29 times and won the Championship 20. During these years, several of the most acclaimed MLB baseball players of all time competed on the Yankees, including Lou Gehrig, Mickey Mantle and Babe Ruth. New York Yankees most recently won the title in 2009 when they were led by Alex Rodriquez and Derek Jeter.
Closest to the Yankees, the next most successful team in World Series history has been the St Louis Cardinals. The St Louis Cardinals, who are in the National League, have made it to the Title Game 17 times and won 10 times. The Cardinals most recently won the World Series in 2006 when Albert Pujols and Scott Rolens led the team. The Cardinals had an impressive run of success between 1926 and 1934 when they went to the series 5 times winning 3. World Series is incredible and during the years 1942 and 1946 the Cardinals took home another 3 titles when Stan Musial was the leader of the team.
